The Lord of the Rings.
1st Edition, 8th/6th/5th Impressions 1959.
George Allen & Unwin.
Hardbacks in linson covered slipcase.
Hammond p.98.

1060 sets issued in three batches [??].

Slipcases manufactured by Jarrold & Sons.  The first 500 sets issued included 8th/6th/5th impressions 1959.  The second batch of 310 sets included 9th/6th/5th impressions 1960/1959/1959. The third batch of 250 sets included 9th/7th/6th impressions 1960.  An additional 250 sets may have been issued in December 1959.

The 9th Impression 1960 of The Fellowship of the Ring misidentifies itself as the 8th Impression 1960.

This version of the slipcase can be identified by the fact that is covered in linson - a tough fibrous paper with an embossed linen-like finish, which is much more durable than the paper used for other versions of the slipcase.
