Page Ref.: p.387. Notes
Includes an article/letter (Notes on the Differences in Editions of The Hobbit Cited by Mr. David Cofield by Christopher Tolkien) that reproduces two pages from a Second Edition copy of The Hobbit annotated by J.R.R. Tolkien.
The annotations are to the introductory note on page ten.
The first annotation is an amendment to the end of the first paragraph to reflect the publication of The Lord of the Rings, which was in preparation when the note was first published (1951).
The second annotation deletes the second paragraph noting that it could be dropped when amendments had been made to pp.32-3 of the Second Edition.
The final annotation reads 'A note on dwarfs', and presumably refers to the explanation of the use of 'dwarves' not 'dwarfs' added to the introduction of the Third Edition. |
