Assumed by many to be a limited edition of 1,000 copies, this is not actually stated in the book. According to information supplied by HarperCollins:
“Because the previous deluxe editions had sold well, the 2002 black deluxe Silmarillion had a projected print run of 2,500, though the delivered print run was a little short at 2,329 copies.”
