1st Impression 1987 - 6,000 copies printed For the 1st Impression, the Unwin Hyman logo did not appear on spine of the book, just the company name in text. The logo was in place for the 2nd Impression. Price printed on dustwrapper. Price-clipped copies have also been seen with a new price added on label. In 1987, Cedric Chivers of Bath bound 150 copies of the 1st Impression for libraries. The binding type is not recorded in Wayne Hammond’s Tolkien bibliography, but was probably hardback.
