Includes the Merin Sentence - a sentence in Quenya with analysis by Lisa Star - see pp.32–35.

The sentence is taken from a letter written by Tolkien and reads "meriu sa haryalye alasse nó vanyalye Ambarello". This means "I hope that you have happiness before you pass from the world".

'Meriu' is thought to be an error for 'Merin'. The latter part of the sentence "nó vanyalye Ambarello" is said to be added when greeting a mortal.

Some have raised doubts as to whether this sentence is genuine - it was first announced on the TolkLang list on 1st April 1999.
