Notes
The description for Lot 395 includes extracts from a two-page letter to Amy Ronald dated 20 March 1969.

In the letter Tolkien discusses recent health issues, the French translation of The Hobbit and the impact of the Norman invasion of England on the English language.

The second page of the letter is reproduced in a photograph.

The first page of the letter is reproduced in Autograph Letters and Printed Books.

The letter is not included in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien (1981).
