Notes
The description for Lot 305 (p.230) includes extracts from a letter to Derrick Parnum, dated 2 March 1955. The first page and parts of another are reproduced in a photograph.

In this four-page letter Tolkien discusses the use of the title 'Professor' at Oxford, birthday dates and presents, and aspects of The Lord of the Rings (reviews, intentions, allegory and applicability).

The letter is not included in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien (1981).
