Notes
Features the Mirkwood illustration and the Map of Wilderland on the endpapers, together with Thror’s Map on a fold-out page. Includes five colour illustrations by Tolkien in addition to the eight standard black and white illustrations and The Three Trolls are Turned to Stone coloured by H.E. Riddett.

Christopher Tolkien’s Foreword reproduces two pages from the manuscript of The Hobbit, together with six further illustrations and several extracts from letters written by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Not stated to be a limited edition. The first print run was 4,000 copies.

At least two states of this edition are known. These probably correspond with two or more impressions, but are not marked as such.
