Tolkien's contribution on pages ix-xliii is entitled Prefatory Remarks on Prose Translation of "Beowulf".

Three impressions issued, all similar:

6th Impression 1963
7th Impression 1967

Copies of this edition were also distibuted in the United States by Barnes & Noble and Macmillan. Copies have been seen with either:

1) A Barnes & Noble label affixed over the Allen & Unwin imprint on the title page.

2) A Macmillan label added to the upper cover (below Tolkien's name).

Tolkien's essay was reprinted in The Monsters and the Critics and Other Essays (1983) as On Translating Beowulf.
