W. Rhys Roberts's essay Gerald of Wales on the Survival of Welsh (see pp.46-60) contains a translation by J.R.R. Tolkien of a portion of a Latin text into late twelfth century English of the South West Midlands. It also notes a suggestion by Tolkien on the significance of "senior quidam".

See pp.58-59.
