Notes
Based on the map of Middle-earth first published in 1954, this new map was a collaboration between Pauline Baynes and J.R.R. Tolkien. Tolkien corrected a few errors on the original map, and supplied some additional place names.

50 copies were printed on cartridge paper with the phrase 'Privately Printed by George Allen & Unwin' added at the foot. Further copies were printed for the trade. Tolkien and Pauline Baynes separately signed an unknown number of copies in 1970, possibly more than six. Jointly they signed three copies in 1973 - these had the top and bottom borders removed at Tolkien's request.

At least 12 impressions of the trade edition were issued:

1st Impression 1970
6th Impression 1974
7th Impression 1974
8th Impression 1975
12th Impression 1986

After the 7th Impression, but not later than the 12th Impression, a green border 17mm high was inserted between the top and bottom edges of the map and the illustrated borders.

The map has been reprinted in a variety of Tolkien-related publications.
