The map showing A Part of The Shire appears on page 26. The 1954 version of the map of The West of Middle-earth at the End of the Third Age is inserted on a fold-out sheet at the rear.

Six impressions issued before the dustwrapper design was changed:

1st Impression 1966 – 15,000 copies
2nd Impression 1967 – 15,000 copies
3rd Impression 1968
4th Impression 1969
5th Impression 1970
6th Impression 1971

The ink used for the rings was changed from the gold colour shown opposite to a yellow-orange colour in 1970.

Some copies of the 7th Impression 1973 have been seen with this style of dustwrapper.
