”Moria Gate” … Another Look is an article by Christopher Tolkien discussing mis-identified illustrations in Pictures by J.R.R. Tolkien. The article includes an extract from a letter to Rayner Unwin dated 12 October 1972 in which Tolkien states that a strip was removed from the bottom of the Moria Gate and was not meant to be used in the calendar.

When Christopher Tolkien was preparing Pictures by J.R.R. Tolkien, he did not realise that the strip was from the bottom of the Moria Gate illustration and incorrectly assumed that it depicted the steps to the East Gate of Moria.
