The description for Lot 72 includes extracts from a two-page letter to Mrs Souch dated 8 September 1955.

In the letter Tolkien discusses his forthcoming book, The Return of the King, the preparation of the appendices, and finished with a mention of The Silmarillion.

Both pages of the letter are reproduced in a photograph.

The letter is not included in The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien (1981).
